For this particular tour I decided to forgo much staging, stressing and getting out  my camera equipment. It is summer after all. I shot everything with my iphone over the last couple of weeks when spaces were tidy and the weather cooperated….whichever came first. It has rained the last 4 days and just stopped last night. This approach seemed to work.

Backyard Pool Area

It goes without saying that this is the most popular area around Duke Manor Farm. We totally transformed our backyard and put in a pool and patio area two years ago. You can read about the construction here. For grins sake, I included a few pictures of the before below. With the exception of the new umbrellas and some new floats everything around the pool area remained the same. It’s nice to see the landscape that I planted around the pool start to mature and fill out. Down the road we plan on adding a small pool house for changing and a bathroom since my pool is not as close to the house. For now, we are enjoying every day of the investment splashing around.

Family Room

This room was originally designed to be a screened in patio. At the 11th hour of our build we decided to turn it into an enclosed room. A few years passed and we turned it into our family room. We commonly refer to this space as our indoor tree house as you feel like you are in the trees when looking out. You can see how this space has transformed over the years  and why we thoroughly appreciate this space…..and how my style has evolved over the years. Note to self, curtains should touch the floor.

Kitchen and Dining Area

This space was originally our family room. When things moved south into the next room we decided to use it as our Dining Area.  ( Our formal Dining Room which we never used became our Piano Room which you can see here) Other than the cut greens on the mantel and a pretty potted annual on the table this is how the space generally will look as you enter from the kitchen area. Keep It Simple Summer Home Tour 2019

Screen Porch

This room was finished about 2 years ago. For 15 years it was an open porch area that we were not very inspired to sit in. Suffice to say, that has all changed. You can see the full reveal here, the inspired before and how to make your own screen panels here

Front Porch

Some say the kitchen is the heart of their homes. For us, it’s our front porch. Although the backyard see’s more action this time of the year, I still try to create a welcoming  “hello” for all of our guests that come by. I swapped out the wicker furniture for some  rockers from Lowes earlier in the year. Trying to keep maintenance at a minimum with the plants, I always place several of my loyal Boston Ferns out along with some pretty annuals. This year I have Purple Pinball and Calibrachoa’s. The later is new to me but looks like a mini petunia.

The pillows are the same one’s from the Spring that you saw here.  Surprisingly my dogs haven’t totally made themselves at home on them quite yet and I love the soothing blue and white stripes. Besides if it works, don’t mess with it. Don’t forget to check out my  recommendations for this season’s summer plants here
